| Customer Reviews: Sturdy and looks good. July 21, 2010 Knightx I bought 3 of this gate because they're sturdy and looks good. I would like it better if the gate is a little bit longer though.
Awesome Gate May 21, 2010 Jennifer R. Garrison 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After trying several different gates, this gate was a great find. Very sturdy, spans a wide distance, has a good child-proof handle, and is very easy to open and close. The audible alarm safety mechanism is a big plus if you have a child who is old enough to open it, and a crawling baby who could then tumble down the stairs. We've disabled ours for now, but plan on turning it back on once our second baby starts crawling.
We've owned this gate for three months now, and it is still holding up great, even with the toddler wrestling with it nearly every day. I would recommend this gate to anyone looking for a safe, reliable gate.
Worth the set up process May 13, 2010 lazyin29 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It started out that I was installing in myself. Then my husband assisted me. Then I got frustrated and left and he finished the installation himself. 1.5 hours later, our gate is finally installed at the top of the stairs. It is best to read the directions instead of scanning it over with your eyes and just looking at the picture... We've had 5 kids, for some reason we thought we could "just do it." The best advice I could give to someone who is installing this gate is that the swinging hinged bolts unscrew to the length you need to fit the area for your gate and then simply tighten the nut with a wrench!
It seems pretty sturdy. I have applied all of my weight to it and I feel confidant that if my 11 month old was standing there with no supervision that she would be fine. I have a 4 year old that I taught to open the gate as well. It does take all of her strength and she can't do it quite on her own, she needs verbal instruction still... but I did just install it a 1/2 hour ago.
I looked at spring loaded and less expensive gates before I purchased this one. All in all, I am happy about this purchase. The safety of my child and not falling down the stairs is important to me and you can't really put a price tag on that!
Very nice gate, hard for the bigger kids to open January 5, 2010 Mom of 4 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this gate because I wanted one that was adjustable, but that didn't have a narrow swinging portion that would reduce the size of our doorway. This works great for that feature because all of the adjusting is done on the swinging part of the gate itself, and there aren't side panels that take up space. It fastened very securely to the wall and is nice looking and durable. It is a perk that you can actually remove the gate temporarily without unscrewing the edge pieces from the wall. I don't bother with the battery operated stuff - don't need it, and don't care to waste the batteries, so I can't speak to that feature. It swings and clicks shut very nicely. My only complaint is that it is too hard to open. It takes a lot of hand strength to squeeze the handle and then pull it up (must be spring loaded or something), so that my 7 and 8 year old kids can barely use it even with 2 hands. And my 4 year old can't open it at all, which is a pain for me (who has to open it for her every time she wants to go downstairs). I don't need a gate to keep out a 4 year old. 4 is old enough to obey, and to go downstairs safely. Even adults have to do it a few times to get it right. Aside from that frustrating feature, it is a nice gate. And since most of the other adjustable gates have narrow openings, I still like this one better than the rest.
